Formation and Early Years
Cartoons was formed in Denmark in 1996 by Jesper Dukholt and Martin Østengaard. They envisioned a Eurodance project that would combine catchy melodies, infectious rhythms, and a playful aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from animated characters, they adopted colorful alter egos to bring their music to life.
Rise to International Fame
In 1998, Cartoons released their debut album, "Toonage," which included the breakout hit "Witch Doctor." The song's infectious "Ooh-eeh-ooh-ah-ah" chant became a global sensation, propelling the band to international stardom. The accompanying music video, featuring the band's animated alter egos, further solidified their unique identity.
Following the success of "Witch Doctor," Cartoons continued to release chart-topping singles and albums, including "DooDah!" and "More Toonage," which featured hits like "DooDah!" and "Aisy Waisy."
