| DJ BAILEY Bailey is a multi award winning radio presenter for BBC 1Xtra and long standing resident DJ for Goldie’s label ‘Metalheadz’. He has record releases under his belt on various record labels including Metalheadz, C.I.A, Roni Size’s ‘Full Cycle’ and A Guy Called Gerald’s imprint called Protechshon. However, Bailey is one of a select few that have managed to climb to the very top of the Drum and Bass ladder without the help of production credits. Bailey’s true passion lies with being the best possible DJ across many styles of Drum and Bass with an impressive track record of bookings that stretch around the globe. Extended biography: Bailey's passion first and foremost lies in being the best possible DJ with a record collection that ranges from Funk to the latest Drum & Bass release lining his walls. His fixation with electronic music began when a compilation on cassette known as ‘Street Sounds Electro 1’ made its way into his hands whilst at school in the early 80’s. The beats and scratching he heard on those tapes and the break dancing he saw around in those times him inspired him to get involved in this new culture circa '82. South London where Bailey lived was filled with sound systems back in the day and he became a member of one playing at local house parties. Later he began venturing out to warehouse parties and heard the sounds popular to the late 80’s—Acid House, Detroit Techno, and Hardcore. It was the break beat element in this new House sound that inspired Bailey and ultimately led him to Drum & Bass. Bailey slowly gained steam as a DJ making mix tapes for friends, playing at wine bars, halls and on local pirate radio stations when a chance meeting with DJ’s ‘Kemistry and Storm’ led Storm to bring him on board one of the first Metalheadz club nights for Goldie in 1995. Unlike most Drum & Bass DJ's of late, Bailey is one of only a handful of successful Drum & Bass DJ’s who became famous without the help of production credits. His recordings come mainly in a traditional DJ's form of mixes for Metalheadz, Knowledge & ATM Magazine front cover mixes, a compilation for the French owned ‘Black Label’ on Sony's Music Garden imprint and a mix called ‘Soul Thunder’ for the renowned U.S label Break beat Science to name a few. This reality shows that Bailey lacks absolutely nothing in the way of skills when he is behind the turntables. He has the capacity to create an impression through sound and sheer mixology to stand out from a crowd of DJ's. To this day Bailey is still a resident DJ for ‘Metalheadz’, Radio One DJ Fabio’s long standing weekly club night called ‘Swerve’ and regularly tours as a guest with other established Drum & Bass labels. In 2002, Bailey was chosen to present his own radio show on Radio 1’s sister station ‘BBC 1Xtra’ which has been running for over seven years every Wednesday night from 22:00 – 01:00. The show has been extremely successful winning Bailey and 1Xtra several awards including ‘Best Radio Station’ at the National Drum & Bass Awards in 2009 and ‘Best Radio Show’ at the Knowledge D&B Awards in 2003 leaving behind contenders Fabio, Grooverider and DJ Hype. Having said all of this, Bailey slowly began warming to life as producer/DJ in 2003 when he made a track for ‘Full Cycle’. It happened more or less by mistake when Bailey wanted to get a track on CD from Full Cycle but instead got a CD with samples and instructions to make a remix. So Bailey decided to give it a shot and the result was a rework of ‘Forget Me Knots’ which was immediately signed up by Full Cycle label boss, Roni Size. Of late, Bailey has record releases under his belt on various labels including Metalheadz, C.I.A and A Guy Called Gerald’s imprint called Protechshon. Bailey’s music as a whole has brought him to conquer Drum & Bass across the world Deejaying in Costa Rica, South Africa, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. His skills have won him what every DJ in the world wants - recognition and most importantly respect |
