LUCY AMBACHE Lucy is the only lady on Choice fm daytime and the youngest dj ever on the station. "I looked after Masterstepz's drivetime show whilst he was in Ayia Napa. It was great daytime exposure. The only issue now is the early mornings and limited week-day clubbing!" Lucy joined the Choice fold in 2002 hosting Freshly Cut the drum&bass show. Originally it was a Monday night session now it moves to the weekend - "it's a Saturday night drum&bass fix with no compromises." Along side the radio Lucy has worked closely on exciting act; un-cut, Shy FX & T Power, Jaheim, Eric Benet, Vikter Duplaix and Hospital Records. On air the last year has led to some memorable moments head-to-heads with huge names in drum&bass; LTJ Bukem, Adam F, Bryan G as well as some huge A-list names in music; De La Soul, Misteeq, Damage and celebrities Ken Livingston, Ben Elton and Ian Wright. Lucy's radio schooling goes back to her student days. The first radio gig came unexpectedly on Manchester's Storm FM. Having hooked up with un-cut in 1996 and created Manchester's first student drum&bass night, Freshly Cut, the offer of the drum&bass show was snapped up. Whilst living in France and working as promoter & dj Lucy took the Freshly Cut brand to Divergence FM - the dance music station in the South of France. "Presenting in French was a huge challenge - it was definitely a sweat." Great inspiration has been taken from the strong woman ethic in her family - Lucy's aunt Diana Ambache, a hugely acclaimed pianist and the first lady in Great Britain to set up and run her own orchestra named "The Ambache." And broadcasting runs in the family too, "I had always listened to Diana's broadcasts on Woman's Hour on Radio 4 and wanted to do the same." Djing has taken Lucy all over the UK and internationally to France, Spain, Ireland, Thailand, Austrailia and to landmark clubs; Ministry of Sound, The Hacienda, and The End. As well as sharing the turntables with legends Roni Size, Trevor Nelson, Grooverider, and The Chemical Brothers. This year is jammed with exciting projects. Lucy will be playing host to some very exciting music events including a residency at TwiceasNice's Sexy & Stylish at El Divino, Ibiza. Also. watch for forthcoming music as she undertakes some serious hot remixes. As well as broadcasts to come from major music events & countries. "Its all about the dancefloor. I love dancing so music's gotta make me move - I get withdrawal sypmtoms when I don't go out enough!" When it comes to clubs, "I like the more intimate venues with a good bar! There are too many favourite nights but ones to mention are Swerve at The End on Wednesday night - its religion for soulful drum&bass. Also i love Plastic People in Shoreditch and Cherry Jam." :: MUSICAL LANDMARKS :: * GOLDIE - Inner City Life (The Bohemain Raphsody of the 1990's.) * ERYKAH BADU - Appletree (Vocals don't come much sweeter) * JANIS JOPLIN - Down On Me (The soundtrack to family life.) * MASTERS AT WORK - Feel It Remix (Great tune to end the night.) * MICHAEL JACKSON - Thriller (For its visual impact to music) |
